Nothing's worse than a stream freezing right before the big play. Buffering almost always comes from the connection between your device and your router, not the channel. Work through these fixes in order. Most people are done by number 3.
1. Restart the device
Streaming devices fill their memory over days of use. Unplug your Fire Stick, TV box or TV for 30 seconds (or hold Select + Play for 5 seconds on a Fire Stick). It's the single most effective fix.
2. Restart your router
Unplug the router and modem for 30 seconds, plug them back in, and wait two minutes for the lights to settle.
3. Use 5 GHz Wi-Fi or a cable
Most routers broadcast two networks. The 5 GHz one (often named with "5G") is much faster at close range. Better still, connect with an Ethernet cable. Fire Sticks need a cheap Ethernet adapter.
4. Move the router or the device
Walls, floors and the TV itself block Wi-Fi. If the router is in another room, a mesh system or a Wi-Fi extender near the TV can fix buffering for good. On a Fire Stick, use the HDMI extender it came with so the stick isn't hidden behind the TV.
5. Check your speed
Run a speed test on the device itself, not on your phone next to the router. You need about 25 Mbps for HD and 50 Mbps for 4K. If you get less, try fixes 3 and 4 first.
6. Pause other downloads
Game downloads, cloud backups and other streams in the house all share the same connection. Pause them while you watch.
7. Try another channel
If one channel buffers but others play fine, that channel's source is having a moment. Try again in a few minutes, or pick another channel showing the same game.
8. Update the app
The NeoStream app updates itself when you open it. On other apps, check for updates in the app store. New versions often improve playback.
Still buffering?
Some internet providers slow down streaming at busy hours. If buffering happens every evening but never in the day, that's the likely cause. Still stuck? Contact us from your account and we'll help.
